Key benefits include:SafetyMap
SafetyMap (Safety Management Achievement Program) is a self assessment tool used by ACI Global to undertake an independent audit review of an organisations health and safety Management System. By using SafetyMap ACI Global Training is able to assess the standard of the existing health and safety system currently in place by undertaking a critical self-assessment.
ACI Global Training SafetyMap self assessment uses the internal resources of an organisation to investigate what procedures are in place, and to confirm whether they are functioning correctly and as planned as well as identifying areas for improvement. Following the self-assessment the organisation will have a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of its health and safety management system and be better prepared for the next step that of conformity to the OHS@S standard 18001 and AS 4801.
SafetyMap is consistent with all requirements of the Health and Safety Legislation although whilst not being tied to any specific health and safety legislation or jurisdiction, it is able to be used throughout Australia and New Zealand as well as Globally.
SafetyMap enables an organisation to:
Once an organisation's baseline health and safety management systems performance has been determined using SafetyMap the process for continuous improvement along the lines of the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle can begin as well as the integration with other management systems all ready in place.
ACI Global uses SafetyMap as a basis to audit an organisations system components based on its organisational needs, circumstances and risk exposure thereby achieving continual improvements for both organisation and employee.
The SafetyMap Approach
SafetyMap provides a set of audit criteria, which cab be used to measure current performance and identify those areas where an organisation can improve its health and safety management system.
The SafetyMap assessment process used by ACI Global also helps to determine priorities and to allocate resources in such a way that best suits the organisations needs. It is important to understand that whilst SafetyMap is not intended to prescribe how to manage health and safety within an organisation it does provide a systematic process way of measuring how well health and safety is being managed.
Management System Integration
ACI Global has adapted SafetyMap as its main tool to achieve continuous improvement within Health and safety management systems primarily because its flexibility enables it to be used to audit any health and safety management system throughout the world. SafetyMap is also compatible and readily integrated with other management systems such as quality, environmental, Risk and Food Safety and HACCP.
Flexibility
A basic consideration for any organisation, large or small, should be the degree of risk associated with its operations. Where the risks to health and safety are greater, there is obviously a requirement for more elaborate and extensive procedures. Smaller organisations often operate under simpler structures, and generally do not need the same degree of complexity as larger organisations, however it is the risk factors that ultimately determine the system requirements. SafetyMap has been designed so that it is completely flexible in its application to organisations regardless of size, management structures or business activity
ACI Global uses SafetyMap as a tool to assist organisations to lift productivity not to burden them with additional paperwork. The type of system and level of documentation required will be determined by the exposure of people to health and safety risks within the workplace environment, not by the size of the organisation.
Continual improvement Process
The recommended improvement cycle embracing Plan-Do-Check-Act commences with the development of a health and safety policy which clearly sets out top management commitment to health and safety. From this a plan is developed to ensure that hazards arising from the work place are identified so that risks can be assessed and controlled.
Implementation of the plan based on the AS 4801 standard is the next step in the process, followed by ways to measure and evaluate the risks controls to determine and ensure their effectiveness. Next the performance of the entire health and safety management system is monitored and reviewed and determine if it is achieving the desired results.
Finally the policy, planning and implementation have to be reviewed and improved emanating from the results of the measurement, evaluation and reviews. This structured approach to the management of health and safety leads to the continual improvement cycle that ensures risks are fully assessed and controlled.
ACI Global use of SafetyMap is based on the continual improvement cycle where an organisation clearly sets out its overall health and safety policy, and a plan for improvement that includes realistic, achievable goals and time frames. When it identifies a health and safety problem it makes the necessary changes and then reviews the progress. As new procedures are added, they are incorporated into the evaluation and review cycle. Adoption of the ACI Global training approach and use of SafetyMap will enable an organisation to move through the continuous improvement of its health and safety system at its own pace and without unnecessary time frames.
